The Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board (NLPB) is currently seeking NLPB-registered pharmacists to serve as members of NLPB’s Disciplinary Panel. Members of the Disciplinary Panel are called on occasionally to sit on three-person adjudication tribunals to hear complaints regarding registrants who are referred by the Complaints Authorization Committee.
Please note, current board members are not eligible for appointment.
Attributes
The following attributes may be considered when appointing members of the Disciplinary Panel:
- Appreciation of responsibility to the public
- High ethical standards and integrity
- Flexibility and willingness to have a wider perspective on issues and to consider others’ opinions
- Ability to listen and work as a team member
- Strong reasoning and conflict-resolution skills
- Effective written and oral communications skills
- Leadership and management skills
- Previous board or committee experience
- Strong understanding of the legislation, standards, and guidelines applicable to registrants.
Consideration will be given to a variety of demographic factors to ensure the Disciplinary Panel is representative of the population it serves and includes individuals with a variety of backgrounds, experience, and skill sets.
Term
Members of the Disciplinary Panel are appointed for three-year terms and are called upon to sit as members of an adjudication tribunal on an as-needed basis. The frequency of adjudication tribunals will vary, with some years requiring multiple adjudication tribunals and others requiring none. Historically, members have rarely been called upon two years in a row. Members should be able to meet up to two to three times per year, plus any additional meetings or training sessions as required.
Remuneration
Members of the Disciplinary Panel are not paid for their services; though, they may be renumerated for certain expenses associated with sitting on an adjudication tribunal, including income replacement allowances for attending hearings as per NLPB’s Expense Claims policy.
