To practice as a pharmacy student or intern in Newfoundland and Labrador, you are required to register with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board (NLPB). Registration as a student or intern confers upon them the right to perform tasks within the scope of practice of a pharmacist, but only under supervision.

Register as a Pharmacy Student
Pharmacy students registering for the first time are required to complete and submit the following application, along with required documentation:
Once registered, you can renew your registration each year through the NLPB Online Registrant Portal following the steps outlined on the Annual Registration Renewal page.

Register as a Pharmacy Intern
Pharmacy graduates who wish to practice as a pharmacy intern or complete the NLPB practical training program (Internship) must apply to register as a pharmacy intern before applying to complete or beginning practical training.
Registration as a pharmacy intern is valid for the period of time specified on the certificate of registration. It is not subject to renewal but may be extended, as necessary. If you are a pharmacy intern and need to extend your initial registration as an intern, please complete and submit the following form:

Apply for Practical Training
Once registered as a pharmacy intern, pharmacy interns wishing to apply for practical training can do so by completing and submitting the following form:
Once the application is submitted, it will be reviewed and, if approved, you will receive an email to confirm that you may begin the internship. Please allow sufficient time – generally 5-7 business days – for this review to take place.
Please note that you are not permitted to begin the internship until you have received this confirmation; credit will not be given for time served prior to the application being approved.
The approval email will also include:
- a manual containing a variety of activities designed to evaluate the applicant’s ability to apply their learned knowledge and skills in a real-world setting; and
- an evaluation form to be completed and submitted by the preceptor at the end of the training period.

Choosing a Preceptor
- Visit the NLPB Public Register to identify registrants authorized as preceptors.
