Register as a Pharmacy Student or Intern

To practice as a pharmacy student or intern in Newfoundland and Labrador, you are required to register with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board (NLPB). Registration as a pharmacy student or intern confers upon them the right to perform tasks within the scope of practice of a pharmacist, but only under supervision.

Register as a Pharmacy Student

Pharmacy students registering for the first time are required to complete and submit the following application, along with required documentation:

Once registered, you can renew your registration each year through the NLPB Online Registrant Portal following the steps outlined on the Annual Registration Renewal page.

Register as a Pharmacy Intern

Pharmacy graduates who wish to practice as a pharmacy intern or complete the NLPB practical training program (Pharmacist Internship) must apply to register as a pharmacy intern before applying to complete or beginning practical training.

Registration as a pharmacy intern is valid for the period of time specified on the certificate of registration. It is not subject to renewal but may be extended, as necessary. If you are a pharmacy intern and need to extend your initial registration, please complete and submit the following form:

Apply for Practical Training

Once registered as a pharmacy intern, pharmacy interns wishing to complete practical training must apply by completing and submitting the following form:

Once the application is submitted, it will be reviewed and, if approved, you will receive an email to confirm that you may begin the internship. As noted on the application, allow for at least 7 business days for this review to take place.

Please note that you are not permitted to begin the internship until you have received this confirmation; credit will not be given for time served prior to the application being approved.

The approval email will also include a manual containing:

  • a variety of activities designed to evaluate the applicant’s ability to apply their learned knowledge and skills in a real-world setting; and
  • an evaluation form to be completed and submitted by the preceptor at the end of the training period.

 
PLEASE NOTE: If, for any reason, you are unable to complete the practical training period, or if a change of preceptor is required, please contact us at registration@nlpb.ca as soon as possible to discuss your options.
